TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on two tropical waves with potential for development, while major Hurricane Gabrielle brings advisories to the Azores.

Located about 390 miles east-northeast of Bermuda, Gabrielle is moving toward the northeast at about 20 mph.

Its maximum sustained winds are near 140 mph with higher gusts, making it a Category 4 hurricane.

Hurricane Gabrielle will proceed to distance itself from Bermuda on Tuesday and is predicted to start approaching the Azores by Thursday. A Hurricane Watch has been issued for the entire Azores region.

Gabrielle is expected to gradually weaken during the next couple of days, the NHC said.

Central and western tropical Atlantic (AL93)

One tropical wave approximately 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles is showing signs of organization, according to the NHC. Environmental conditions are favorable for further development over the coming days.

This system may form into a tropical depression later this week as it advances west-northwestward to northwestward across the western tropical Atlantic, reports the NHC.

The chance of formation in the next 48 hours is 50 percent.

The chance of formation in the next seven days is 90 percent.

East of the Leeward Islands (AL94)

A tropical wave located about 100 miles east of the Leeward Islands could develop later this week.

The tropical wave is causing concentrated yet disorganized showers and thunderstorms. The conditions look somewhat favorable for additional development over the next few days as the wave progresses westward to west-northwestward at speeds of 15 to 20 mph.

The NHC states that the system is anticipated to decelerate and turn northwestward by the end of this week. A tropical depression might form late this week as the system moves over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean or nears the Bahamas.

The chance of formation in the next 48 hours is 20 percent.

The chance of formation in the next seven days is 60 percent.
