ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a window on a Mapleton Public Schools building was damaged by a stray bullet following an armed carjacking Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

The carjacking occurred around 2 p.m. in the 7600 block of Navajo Street.

The sheriff’s office said several people — four juvenile males and an 18-year-old male — have been detained.

The victim of the carjacking was uninjured and providing information to detectives, the sheriff’s office said.

After the incident, the sheriff’s office said the suspects in the stolen car drove near the Global Campus, and a shot was fired.

The bullet ended up shattering a window at the Mapleton Arts Center building, which was unoccupied at the time. Investigators don’t know who or what the suspects were aiming at.

Authorities have put the entire campus, which includes multiple school facilities, on lockdown as deputies continue investigating.

If you are a parent, guardian, or family member attempting to pick up a student, please contact the school for the release procedure, the sheriff’s office said.
