MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man, aged 70, lost his life on Thursday night when the vehicle he was in was hit by a pickup truck that ignored a red traffic signal in Marion County, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal two-vehicle wreck happened around 7:20 p.m. on State Road 200 at Southwest 103rd Street Road.

The FHP said the pickup, driven by a 52-year-old Ocala man, was eastbound on S.R. 200 and “failed to stop at a steady red light.”

The pickup collided with a westbound car that was attempting to make a left turn onto Southwest 103rd Street Road, according to troopers.

The car passenger was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and was pronounced dead, the FHP said.

The driver of the car, a 70-year-old Ocala woman, was seriously injured, according to an FHP crash report.

The pickup driver suffered minor injuries.

No other details were released.
