MARION COUNTY, Fla. – An 81-year-old Ocala man was killed in a crash Saturday morning in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle crash occurred around 8:50 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 40 and SW 113th Circle, troopers said.

An 81-year-old man was heading south on SW 113th Circle in his sedan, nearing the S.R. 40 intersection, while a 46-year-old man from Ocala was driving a pickup truck with a trailer west on the inside lane of the state road, as per the FHP crash report.

The report indicates that the sedan driver tried to turn left onto S.R. 40, crossing into the westbound lanes and moving directly into the path of the pickup truck.

The front of the truck hit the left side of the sedan as a result, troopers said.

The 81-year-old was declared dead on site by Marion County’s fire-rescue chief. Officials suspect he wasn’t wearing a seat belt during the accident.
