‘You just changed my life’: Ohio man misses alarm, wins lottery

EAST ROCHESTER, Ohio (WJW) Sleeping through an alarm cost one Ohio man a day of work but it gained him a $50,000 lottery prize.

The East Rochester resident stopped at Classic 2 Drive Thru in Minerva to grab an energy drink after waking up late, he told the Ohio Lottery.

While there, he bought a $30 Scratch-Off ticket and won $500. Encouraged by his win, he purchased a few more tickets, including a Monopoly 200X ticket.

“As I was leaving, I realized I had a $50,000 winner,” the man said. “I reversed my truck in the drive-thru and asked the clerk to check my ticket. I told him, ‘I think you just changed my life.’”

His heart was racing until the clerk confirmed the win. But this wasn’t his first lucky break.

Back in March, the man’s truck slid off the road near a gas station. After the accident, he went inside, bought a drink and a VIP Millions Scratch-Off, which turned out to be a $20,000 winner.

He used those winnings to buy a new truck which he now plans to pay off with this latest windfall, he told the Ohio Lottery.

After taxes, he’ll receive $36,000.

Monopoly 200X is a $30 game with a top prize of $200,000 a year for 25 years. As of July 18, there are three top prizes remaining, according to the Ohio Lottery.
