PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) Vogue once dubbed Adam Sandler a “fashion icon” for his signature style that typically features baggy T-shirts and somehow baggier basketball shorts. But an upcoming celebration in Oregon will honor his on-screen style instead.

“Sandler In the Park” asks attendees to dress as their favorite characters from the actor and comic’s filmography. The event will be held at Portland’s Cathedral Park on May 17. From Hawaiian shirts inspired by “Just Go With It” to gaudy jewelry inspired by “Uncut Gems,” attendees have a variety of looks to choose from.

Portland resident Riza Antonio told affiliate KOIN that she already wanted to organize a community event she just needed a theme.

Adam Sandler-themed raffle prizes will be offered at park party

“I’ve been feeling in this spot where I feel like there’s so much weight on my shoulders and I feel like a lot of people around me feel the same way with the things that are going on in the world right now,” Antonio said. “And I watched an old ‘SNL’ clip of Adam Sandler, and I was like, ‘Oh my God. I watched all his movies growing up as a kid.’ And then it clicked.”

The 33-year-old legal assistant and now-party-planner noted that she admires Sandler’s ability to be himself even while remaining an A-lister. He made headlines at the 2025 Oscars after showing up in his usual attire. And while “Sandler in the Park” isn’t expected to be quite like the glitzy awards ceremony, it will have some perks of its own.

According to Antonio, the party will include group photos, Sandler-themed raffle prizes, character impressions and soundtracks from some of his best films. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own drinks and food, although there will be a limited amount at the party. The host is also hoping someone brings a guitar to perform “Forgetful Lucy” from ”50 First Dates,” or even some of the tunes from “The Wedding Singer.”

“Let’s make things positive and get people together,” said Antonio. “I just feel like there’s a sense of loneliness, or people just don’t know where to start as far as connecting with one another. And I feel like this is a [way] to connect.”
