OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – On Saturday afternoon, deputies from Osceola County fatally shot an 18-year-old man who reportedly rushed toward them while armed, according to information from the sheriff’s office.

During a news conference, Osceola County Chief Deputy Dan Weis said the incident happened around 12:50 p.m. near Chirpine Lane in St. Cloud.

According to Weis, deputies responded to a call from a a family regarding the man who was having a mental health crisis.

Deputies said when they arrived, the man emerged from a patch of woods naked and armed with a gun.

“The subject charged our deputies and both of our deputes had to fire their firearms and then stop the subject,” Weis said.

The man died from his gunshot wounds, but officials did not say if he died at the scene or was taken to the hospital.

“Our deputies are OK. They weren’t shot,” Weis said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
