OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Concerns are mounting regarding the escalating traffic congestion on Narcoossee Road, as Osceola County commissioners gear up to green-light another residential development near the boundary with Orange County.

On Monday, the commission is set to vote on a proposal to construct 289 homes at the intersection of Cyrils Drive and Crosswater Boulevard, located on the northeast corner.

This proposed development will span 51.58 acres and is situated in proximity to several other neighborhoods that have emerged in recent years.

All residences in the vicinity are linked to Narcoossee Road, which has been experiencing a significant increase in traffic flow over the past few years.

As reported by Matt Austin from News 6, Metroplan Orlando has indicated that the road’s infrastructure has not kept pace with the rapid expansion in Southeast Orange and Northern Osceola counties.

Back in 2022, Narcoossee Road supported around 38,000 vehicles daily. Today, that figure has surged past 58,000, surpassing its designed capacity of 55,000 vehicles per day.

Alejandro Marin has a home in the area and said the situation has been frustrating.

“The traffic is very horrible because they keep building houses around,” Marin said. “When I go to the office, I have to go during certain hours, because otherwise I get a lot of traffic on Narcoossee.”

A new toll road—State Road 534—is in the works to provide an alternate route. However, the project is still in the design phase and won’t be completed for several years.

Commissioners are expected to vote on the proposed development during their regular meeting on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
