PALM BAY, Fla. – This holiday season, a family in Palm Bay is counting their blessings—not in the form of material gifts but in the cherished value of life itself. After a truck crashed into the home they were renting, the family of six is profoundly thankful that everyone emerged unscathed.
Luke Saunders recounted the harrowing incident, explaining that his wife, Frances Bernier, and their two sons were inside the house when the crash occurred. “It was a frightening ordeal,” Saunders shared. “Yet, the most important thing is that no one was hurt. That’s my primary concern—everyone is safe, and even the driver is unharmed.”
According to Palm Bay Police, the accident happened when an elderly neighbor mistakenly hit the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to collide with the front of the house. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no arrests were made, leading to the closure of the case.
Reflecting on the incident, Saunders expressed a sense of gratitude beyond the immediate loss. “Things can be replaced, but people can’t,” he emphasized. “It’s tough timing, especially over the holidays, but I believe everything will be alright with time and faith.”
Currently, the family is residing in an Airbnb while they contemplate their future steps. Despite the unexpected challenge, Saunders is heartened by the outpouring of support from the community.
“The Red Cross, local community members, and even my daughter’s school have been incredibly supportive,” he remarked. “It’s overwhelming in the best way to realize the kind of support we have around us. It truly is a blessing.”
