DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Six train cars derailed Monday on the tracks that run parallel to East Faries Parkway, near the ADM plant in Decatur.

Officers from the Decatur Police Department arrived at the scene around 8 a.m. Alongside them, the fire department was also present on Monday morning to confirm there was no risk to the public. A spokesperson for Norfolk Southern mentioned that the freight cars were filled with soybeans and confirmed that there were no injuries resulting from the incident.

Now, part of Faries Parkway is closed east of Samuels Street. A WCIA reporter on the scene said crews are fixing the tracks.

The clean-up operation is currently in progress, with Norfolk Southern predicting its completion by 5 p.m. The reason behind the derailment is still being looked into.

WCIA attempted to contact ADM but has not yet received an update. Additionally, they reached out to Decatur’s Public Works Department for more information and are awaiting a response.
