Pasco Firefighter's Road Rage Escalates: Gun-Wielding Incident Sparks Controversy in Polk County

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — Dy’Sean Broome, a 33-year-old firefighter with Pasco County Fire Rescue, has been arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Broome faces charges including unlawful display of a firearm, aggravated stalking, and aggravated assault, following a road rage incident that occurred on October 25.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd commented on Broome’s actions, saying, “You put him on a fire rescue truck? I’m just saying. You ought to think through this. He didn’t learn after his first operation when he got fined. Now he’s pulling guns and chasing people.”

In an unrelated incident, the owner of a Lake Wales dry cleaner reportedly threatened to kill a customer and attacked an officer, according to police.

The latest incident involving Broome unfolded as a couple was driving along US-95 South, from Bartow to Lakeland. They alleged that Broome, driving an orange Dodge Charger, was aggressively tailgating them and cutting them off. An arrest affidavit reveals that Broome pointed a semiautomatic pistol at the couple when he approached their vehicle.

Sheriff Judd further described the situation, noting, “He had in his lap, that’s right, a clip full of ammunition. We found a gun in the car; he made statements about protecting himself. All kinds of nonsense.”

This marks Broome’s second arrest related to road rage in Polk County. Back in 2017, he was apprehended for throwing a bottle out of a moving vehicle during a road dispute, which resulted in injuries to a 67-year-old woman, according to arrest records.

Pasco County Fire Rescue told 8 On Your Side Broome is still with the department, and was background checked prior to being hired, in accordance with Florida State Statutes. The Pasco Professional Firefighters Union (IAFF Local 4420) said that standard practice in this situation is a disciplinary and investigative process prior to any action.

Broome has bonded out of jail.
