Passenger charged with abduction after alleged pursuit in Bristol, Va.

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — Authorities arrested a North Carolina man on Tuesday following a pursuit initiated by deputies from the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office through Virginia and Tennessee, according to a sheriff’s office release.

The release indicated that deputies were informed about a red Nissan SUV involved in an active joint narcotics investigation. The vehicle was reportedly seen departing from the Motel 6 on Clear Creek Road in Bristol, Va. The vehicle allegedly did not comply when deputies attempted a traffic stop.

Upon failing to pull over, the Nissan reportedly led deputies on a chase that proceeded south on Interstate 81, passed through the City of Bristol, and eventually stopped in Tennessee.

The passenger, Jonas Tramone Thompson, 44, of High Point, North Carolina, was taken into custody and charged with the following in Washington County, Virginia:

  • Abduction
  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

He was charged with the following in Bristol, Va., according to the release:

  • Concealing/Destroying Evidence
  • Possession of a Firearm while in Possession of Drugs
  • Manufacture, Sale and Possession of Controlled Substance

Thompson is being held in the Sullivan County, Tennessee, Jail as a fugitive from Virginia, the release said.

The driver of the Nissan was not identified in the release.

This is an ongoing investigation.
