Nationwide outage affecting US passport verification

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A nationwide outage is impacting U.S. passport verification, according to Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.

Giannoulias shared an announcement on “X” at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, indicating, “A nationwide disruption has caused U.S. passport verification to be temporarily inaccessible. We are closely observing the situation and will provide updates as they occur.”

The secretary of state’s office has confirmed that a contingency plan is operational, ensuring that DMV operations continue without any delays due to the outage.

The office released the following statement:

We have set in motion a strategy allowing us to handle U.S. passports and immigration documents from other nations at our DMV locations. Consequently, no delays are being experienced at our DMVs.
