Pentagon Deploying 1,700 Troops to Support ICE Across 19 States

() Pentagon officials confirmed to that 1,700 military troops will be mobilized to 19 states to assist with immigration enforcement.

“The Secretary of Defense has authorized this support through mid-November, but as with any mission, retains the authority to adjust or extend that timeline as needed for the mission,” a Department of Defense official stated.

Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell initially announced the duty status change of 1,700 troops on July 25, transitioning Title 10 Marine Corps personnel to Title 32 status as National Guard.

The operation “includes case management, transportation and logistical support, and clerical support for the in- and out-processing of illegal aliens at ICE detention facilities,” the news release stated last month.

The troops will be deployed to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming, according to the DOD official who spoke on background.

“This is a separate mission from the D.C. support mission. Additional questions on personnel support to ICE should be directed to the individual states supporting the mission,” the spokesperson commented.

Governors in multiple Republican-led states have supported President Donald Trump’s crime crackdown in D.C.
