BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — A dog that suffered burns and smoke inhalation during a house fire in Bristol, Virginia, on Saturday night was revived by firefighters on the scene.

A release from Bristol, Virginia, Fire Chief Mike Armstrong stated the house fire occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Clark Street. Responders arrived to find visible smoke coming from the two-story home.

Crews located the fire on the house’s lower level, discovering one room with significant fire damage and smoke damage throughout the structure.

“A mutual-aid request immediately went out to Bristol, Tennessee Fire-Rescue for assistance,” the release mentions. “Crews went to work stretching hose lines into the house to control the fire.”

The release noted that while the house’s occupants escaped before the fire department’s arrival, they informed crews that several pets, including cats and dogs, were still inside the home.

“At the time of the fire the house did not have electricity,” the release states. “There were several

small candles being used.”

Crews successfully retrieved three dogs and several cats, according to the release. One dog, who had suffered severe smoke inhalation and burns, was reportedly saved with a pet oxygen mask, Armstrong noted.

“Once the dog was revived, it was turned over to the owner,” the release states.

The fire department said the incident is being considered accidental and remains under investigation. No humans reported injuries as a result of the fire, and the home’s occupants are being assisted by a local chapter of the American Red Cross.

The release said the scene was cleared by midnight that night.
