Pickup Truck Hits Pedestrians and Collides with Brevard County Building, Police Report

COCOA, Fla. – A tragic accident in Cocoa on Friday afternoon claimed the life of a woman and sent a driver to the hospital, as reported by local police.

Authorities stated that they were alerted to the incident at 12:55 p.m. when multiple calls reported a pickup truck hitting two pedestrians before crashing into a structure near 300 Brevard Ave.

Upon their arrival, emergency responders discovered a 25-year-old woman lying unresponsive on the ground. She was immediately transported to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The man accompanying the woman declined any medical attention, however, the truck’s driver, a 64-year-old man, was hospitalized, according to investigators.

Initial investigations suggest that the driver might have experienced a medical episode, leading to the loss of control over his vehicle, identified as a 2016 white Dodge Ram 1500, the report noted.

Witnesses recounted that the truck veered onto the sidewalk, hitting the pedestrians before ultimately crashing into the building on Brevard Avenue.

As such, Brevard Avenue has been closed between State Road 520 and Harrison Street as investigators continue to look into the crash.

Meanwhile, the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse — located near the scene of the crash — announced that all Playhouse staff members and volunteers were safe.

“Moments like these remind us how precious each day is and how grateful we are for the safety and care of our community,” Playhouse officials wrote.

No additional information has been provided at this time.
