New comic bookstore in Plant City adds twist to appeal a larger audience

Located in Plant City, you’ll find Plant City Comics Café, also known as PC3, a hidden treasure featuring anime, both vintage and modern, rare collectibles, and a menu crafted by a chef.

Instead of the musty scent often associated with old bookstores, you’ll catch the aroma of ramen, burgers, and chai, with something captivating to see at every turn.

For owner 55-year-old Army vet Michelle Irving, diving into the comic book world business venture was born out of love for her husband.

“You can’t keep standing next to somebody and not see their dreams met,” said PC3 owner Michelle Irving.

The couple’s worldly travels inspired the collection.

“We had been traveling to different places, and every time we did, my husband Sherick would always go to a comic book shop,” Michelle said.

Michelle isn’t into comic books herself, which sparked the idea for the café. She designed a place where she and her comic book enthusiast husband, Sherrick, could both feel at home.

“We have Ghost Rider number one here. It’s a hot item that many are seeking, and we’re lucky to have it,” expressed owner Sherrick Irving.

You’ll find the usual suspects, new books, key books, classics, manga, Disney, and Funko Pops. But the real jackpot is unboxed, in the vault.

For all the unearthed treasures here, it’s more than just a shop.

“We also host Dungeons and Dragons game nights, and we aim to add trivia nights. Our goal is to invite people in, creating a welcoming environment for kids so they feel safe and valued,” Michelle shared.

Michelle said she’s hoping PC3 adds a more connected sense of community and to be the hero we all need.

She tells us this month the best-selling comic subscription is Batman No.1. Visit PC3 to learn more.
