BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — Two people were arrested after fentanyl was found inside a vehicle during a Bristol, Virginia traffic stop, police report.
According to a news release from the Bristol Virginia Police Department (BVPD), a vehicle was stopped on Lee Highway near the Exit 5 southbound ramp on March 14.
K-9 Fanta helped detectives at the scene and reportedly led them to roughly four and a half ounces of fentanyl in the vehicle.
Kristi Sheffler, 37, and Rachel Canter, 26, both of Bristol, Virginia, were arrested and transported to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon. As of Wednesday, both women are being held without bond.
Sheffler was identified by the BVPD as the driver, and Canter was a passenger.
Both were charged with transporting controlled substances into the Commonwealth. Their charges stem from a tip the BVPD received regarding fentanyl trafficking from outside of Bristol.
The Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
Sheffler and Canter are set to appear in court on April 24.
