(KRON) A traffic stop on Highway 101 in Monterey County on July 31 resulted in the seizure of 40 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers found the drugs after stopping a white Chevy Silverado for a traffic violation. During the stop, K-9 officer “Rae” hit on the smell of drugs outside the truck. CHP officers searched the truck and allegedly found 30 pounds of meth inside.

The driver, 37-year-old Alan Duran of Los Banos, was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on drug charges. Following the bust, a CHP detective requested a search warrant for Duran’s home in Los Banos. During the search, K-9 officer “Chip” allegedly found another 10 pounds of meth.

Commander of the Monterey CHP Office Capt. Nicholas King praised the police dogs used in the case.

“This case shows the outstanding work of our K9 officers,” King said. “Their dedication to public safety helped keep a large amount of dangerous drugs off our streets.”
