A significant Memorial Day tradition is taking place today in Pooler, where thousands of flags serve as a poignant reminder of the true cost of freedom. The “Flags for the Fallen” event will conclude with a ceremony on Monday morning, during which local leaders will pay tribute to our heroes.

This Memorial Day gathering celebrates the substantial military community in the Coastal Empire and marks the end of a multi-day tribute to World War II airmen. A large audience is anticipated to attend.

Pooler city officials and the Mighty Eighth Museum are jointly hosting their yearly Memorial Day ceremony, which signifies the finale of the annual “Flags for the Fallen” event. This event showcases 26,000 American flags, each symbolizing a WWII airman who gave their life. Today’s ceremony will feature a wreath-laying, a prayer, the national anthem, and the recitation of the pledge of allegiance.

The event will also include local leaders. Congressman Buddy Carter and Mayor Karen Williams will deliver remarks.

The event kicks off at 11 a.m. this morning. The community is invited to reflect on this holiday and remember those who gave their lives for our country.

All are welcome today, and it’s a chance to stand among thousands of flags and remember the airmen who never came home.
