POOLER, Ga. ()– Significant developments are underway today for motorists in Pooler. This morning marks the commencement of phase one of the Quacco Road enhancement project, aimed at reducing congestion and catering to the area’s rapid expansion.
This is a pivotal moment for Pooler, which has evolved from a small town into one of the fastest-growing areas in Georgia. With tens of thousands of vehicles traveling the road each day, city officials acknowledge that this initiative is much needed.
The project, supported by a $25 million investment, will extend approximately 1.7 miles of new roadway reaching east from Pooler Parkway. The goal is to enhance safety, alleviate traffic congestion, and provide an alternative route to I-16 and Savannah for drivers.
This is just the beginning of a multi-phase plan to keep up with Pooler’s rapid growth and the surge of traffic from nearby developments like the Hyundai Metaplant. The road expansion also ties into broader plans to manage growth while protecting the region’s natural resources.
“Is an important investment is going to expand that roadway to accommodate some of this growth, the development that we’ve seen… just to be clear, it’s going to be four lanes from approximately Blue Moon crossing to East Haven and then from East Haven. It will begin to taper back down to tie back into the existing roadway,” said Heath Lloyd, the City Manager of Pooler.
The construction is expected to last about 3 years. But the long-term payoff will be smoother traffic and better connectivity. The groundbreaking here today will be at 9 a.m. near Fire Station 4 in Pooler.
Officials are urging drivers to be patient and cautious during construction. They also say they will be investing in sidewalks along the road. We’ll be at the groundbreaking later this morning with more coverage.
