CHICAGO (WGN) — On Monday, bomb specialists were dispatched to Chicago’s Midway International Airport to investigate a device suspected of being dangerous, which was accompanied by a message against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Eyewitnesses informed WGN-TV that the package bore the words “FOR ICE FROM FC.” The FBI and Chicago police have not provided further clarification on the meaning of these words as details are still sparse.
Chicago police’s bomb squad successfully neutralized the potentially hazardous package, found at 60th & Kilpatrick, shortly after 8:40 a.m. Patrol officers on the scene notified local residents before safely handling the suspicious package.
The situation unfolded about 300 yards from Midway Airport’s main terminal, according to law enforcement officials.
Prior to the bomb squad’s arrival, local residents noticed red and orange writing on the package and contacted the police. WGN sought additional details from CPD News Affairs and the Department of Homeland Security regarding the cryptic message.
