DES MOINES, Iowa – The Powerball jackpot rose to an estimated $1.3 billion Monday night after the winning numbers failed to appear.

The numbers drawn were 8, 23, 25, 40, 53 with the Powerball 5.

No participant has successfully matched all six numbers since May 31, which has allowed the jackpot to grow to $1.3 billion. This amount would become the fifth-largest prize in the history of the game if someone wins during the drawing on Wednesday night.

As ticket sales climbed during the past week, game officials raised the estimated Monday night jackpot to $1.1 billion before taxes.

Although there was no lucky jackpot winner, two ticket holders in Montana and North Carolina each won $2 million.

If claimed, the jackpot is distributed through payments over a 30-year period. However, winners have the option to receive a one-time cash payout, which is currently valued at $589 million, before taxes.

The chance of matching all six numbers is extremely slim, with odds standing at 1 in 292.2 million. Comparatively, the likelihood of being struck by lightning is significantly higher. Nevertheless, with numerous participants vying for transformative wealth, a winner inevitably emerges.

Powerball tickets are priced at $2 each and can be purchased in 45 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings take place thrice a week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights.
