Public Works Vehicle Hits Two Pedestrians in New Smyrna Beach, Authorities Report

    NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A tragic incident unfolded on Friday morning when a New Smyrna Beach Public Works employee was involved in an accident that injured two pedestrians, according to local authorities.

    The collision occurred at the corner of 27th Avenue and South Atlantic Avenue.

    The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident involved a 2018 Ford F-250. The vehicle, heading east on E. 27th Avenue, attempted a left-hand turn onto S. Atlantic Avenue. In doing so, it failed to yield and collided with two pedestrians who were crossing westward in a designated crosswalk.

    The driver, a 23-year-old man from Oak Hill, remained unhurt and stayed at the scene. Meanwhile, a male pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to the hospital. A female pedestrian suffered serious injuries but is currently stable, as stated by the Florida Highway Patrol.

    City officials have confirmed they are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
