Reports: Largest immigration facility in U.S. to be at Fort Bliss

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The federal government is moving forward with building what would be the largest immigration detention facility in the country at Fort Bliss, according to Bloomberg News.

A $231.8 million contract has been awarded to establish and operate a deportation hub at Fort Bliss, according to the Department of Defense. Bloomberg News reports that the overall project would be $1.2 billion.

What is being called a “short-term detention facility” for single adults would have a capacity of 5,000 people, according to the Department of Defense.

Bloomberg News is reporting that this facility will be at Fort Bliss, which is known for having one of the largest training areas in the Army.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2027.

The contract was awarded to Acquisition Logistics LLC of Virginia, the DoD said.

This would be the largest immigration detention facility in the country, according to Bloomberg News.

Back in February, KTSM reported that the Trump Administration was planning to build a large immigration facility at Fort Bliss.

Back in March, KTSM also reported that Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll said an “immigration facility” at Fort Bliss had been greenlighted.
