AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is aiming to bridge the gap between youth and law enforcement.

RCSO is offering a complimentary two-day basketball camp for youth at the Laney High School Gymnasium. Deputies emphasized that basketball encompasses more than victories and defeats—it’s about teamwork and guidance.

“Typically, kids encounter police officers in their communities. This event provides a new perspective, showing them we’re human,” stated Sheriff Eugene Brantley. “We relate to them—we dress like them, look like them, and share many of their interests.”

“I’ve learned to maintain a positive attitude, consistently push myself, treat everything as a competition, and stay optimistic,” expressed participant Jamil Walker.
