On Monday morning, Democratic House Representative Ruwa Romman took to her X account to announce her candidacy for the Governor of Georgia.
In the post, Romman says:
“The moment to be courageous is now. For over two decades, Republicans have controlled Georgia, resulting in underfunded schools, the closure of hospitals, and wages stagnating at $5.15.”
I’m running for Governor to change that.”
Since the beginning of 2023, Romman has been serving as the representative for the 97th district in the Georgia House of Representatives. She made history as the first Jordanian and Muslim woman to hold this position.
She joins a field of Democratic candidates that includes:
- Keisha Lance Bottoms
- Olujimi Brown
- Geoff Duncan
- Jason Esteves
- Derrick Jackson
- Mike Thurmond
The election to decide the next Governor of Georgia will take place on November 3, 2026.
