SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Savannah High Blue Jackets’ defense shined in a Friday night scrimmage vs. Groves High School.
Following an early start that saw them leading 7-0 against the Rebels, Blue Jackets senior linebacker James Kelly capitalized defensively by returning a botched snap for points.
The touchdown extended the Blue Jackets lead to 13.
During their next possession, the Rebels attempted a wildcat formation strategy but were swiftly countered by Blue Jacket defenders, who flooded the backfield.
Even after switching quarterbacks in the second quarter, the Rebels couldn’t shake the strong Blue Jackets’ defense. Senior safety Eli Frieson charged forward to deliver a powerful hit, setting the tone for a defense-focused evening.
The Blue Jackets went on to win the scrimmage 26-13 despite the Rebels gaining some momentum in the second half.
Friday’s victory provides a confidence boost for Savannah High after they had a tough time against Islands High School during a scrimmage that involved no scores or downs last Friday.
The Blue Jackets begin non-region competition next Friday, Aug. 15 vs. Frederica Academy.
