Multiple agencies respond to large fire in Weldon

DEWITT COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Two buildings are a “total loss” after a fire in DeWitt County over the weekend.

Weldon Fire and Rescue teams were dispatched to a blaze on Friends Creek Road. Upon arrival, they discovered a barn that had caved in, fully consumed by flames. A nearby large machine shed was also burning and had partially given way.

The Village of Weldon brought in their backhoe to knock down the remaining structure, due to damage on the shed.

The Weldon Fire team noted that there were several campers and additional nearby structures. The fire crews tackled the blaze externally to prevent it from spreading to these other buildings. Although the two affected structures were completely destroyed, thankfully, no injuries or displacements occurred as a result.

Assisting in the effort were fire crews from Clinton, Deland, Maroa, Argenta, Cisco, Wapella, and Kenney, as well as Dewitt County EMS, Dewitt County EMA, Dewitt County Sheriff’s Department, Terry Followell, and the Red Cross.
