ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WCIA) — A fire broke out at a restaurant in St. Joseph Sunday afternoon.

Jim Page, the Mayor of St. Joe’s, reported that the incident occurred at Roch’s Place, situated at 101 N. Main St. Even though all individuals evacuated safely, one person required medical transport due to smoke inhalation, according to Page.

Page added that St. Joseph-Stanton Fire Protection District crews had to rotate while fighting the fire due to the extreme temperature.

“I want to thank the St. Joseph – Stanton Fire Protection District for their quick and professional response!” Page said in a statement.

Fire crews from Ogden-Royal, Edge-Scott, Carroll, Savoy, Homer, Thomasboro, Gifford, Rantoul, and Sidney provided assistance. Page also mentioned that the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Carle ambulances, and the Public Works Department of the Village of St. Joseph responded to the incident.

Page also thanked all the residents who brought water and Gatorade for the firefighters.

“The bottom line is that no one was seriously injured, things can be replaced and if we call for help, it comes!” Page said.

WCIA reached out to the St. Joseph-Stanton Fire Protection District for more information but did not immediately hear back.
