JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a shooting in Johnson County on Thursday.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reported that officers responded to the 800 block of Spear Branch Road shortly before 6 p.m. following the discovery of an unresponsive individual at a home.
Officers determined that the individual, identified by police as 60-year-old Kirby Proffitt, died due to a gunshot wound.
The JCSO Criminal Investigation Division, alongside the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, conducted an investigation that resulted in the arrest of 55-year-old Kevin Proffitt.
Kevin Proffitt was arrested Friday morning on one count of first-degree murder, according to the sheriff’s office.
As of Friday, he’s being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $1 million bond.
