A man was apprehended earlier this month in Wildwood, Sumter County, following a pursuit that was sparked by his suspended driver’s license, authorities reported.
According to a social media update from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies along with Wildwood police identified the suspect as Eric Eugene Mobley after observing him driving with a suspended license around 11 p.m. on January 12.
Law enforcement officials attempted to pull Mobley over on Main Street, but he reportedly accelerated and drove erratically, prompting officers to initially halt their pursuit, the statement noted. Shortly thereafter, a deputy responded to a report of an unfamiliar vehicle parked on a resident’s property and discovered it was the same car involved in the chase.
Bodycam footage released by the sheriff’s office shows the deputy pursuing Mobley into a nearby wooded area, where he was swiftly detained without further incident.
Mobley is now facing multiple charges, including driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding law enforcement at high speed, and resisting arrest without violence, according to official records.
