New details have emerged from Marion County, Florida, as surveillance footage captures a dramatic incident involving a sheriff’s deputy being shot while in his patrol car.

The event unfolded in June when a deputy pulled over Rheanna Harden, 22, on South Highway 441. Harden faced arrest on charges of possessing methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, providing a false ID, and driving with a suspended license.

During her transport to the Marion County Jail, Harden, who was cuffed in the back of the patrol car, managed to slip one hand free and accessed the plexiglass divider between herself and the deputy, according to the arrest affidavit.

The footage reveals Harden removing her visor to obscure the rear seat camera before she retrieved a hidden firearm from her clothing and fired several shots through the divider.

In response, the deputy fired back, leading to a crash into a utility pole. Both the deputy and Harden sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and received medical attention at local hospitals, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

At the scene, deputies discovered a revolver with six spent shell casings near Harden’s location after she was extracted from the vehicle.

Harden ended up receiving an additional charge of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer.

Her next court date is Jan. 29.
