Rantoul man denied pretrial release in stabbing of 8-year-old

An 18-year-old from Arcola, Samuel Garcia, is facing serious legal charges after an alleged stabbing incident that left four individuals injured. Garcia has been charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault following the violent altercation this past Sunday.

The Urbana Police Department reported that the incident took place at approximately 5:45 p.m. at the junction of Hunter and Lierman in Urbana. The police were called to the scene in response to multiple reports of a large-scale fight occurring outside a residence.

Garcia appeared in court on Tuesday at the Champaign County Courthouse. During the proceedings, Assistant State’s Attorney William Cole presented new evidence related to the case.

Cole revealed that one of the victims claimed Garcia was upset because the mother of his child was in the house with her ex-boyfriend, who was also one of the victims. This alleged motive added a personal layer to the violent encounter.

Furthermore, Cole detailed accounts from another victim who reportedly received threatening texts from Garcia prior to the incident. This victim stated that Garcia drove past the location in a white sedan before returning, exiting the vehicle, and allegedly initiating the stabbing spree.
