ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was shot Friday afternoon when a fight broke out in front of a homeless shelter in Orlando, according to the shelter.
Orlando Union Rescue Mission said in a statement that two men were in line waiting to enter the shelter around 1:30 p.m. when they began fighting.
The mission said one of the men then ran to his car, grabbed a gun and shot the other man.
The injured individual quickly rushed to a clinic within the shelter, where he was eventually picked up by an ambulance and transported to the hospital. The Orlando Fire Department informed News 6 that they responded to a “medical emergency” and conveyed one person to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
According to a statement from the Orlando Union Rescue Mission, the shooter was apprehended. The shelter described the incident as a “unique anomaly,” noting it is the first shooting in its 77-year history.
No other information, including the name of the suspected shooter, has been released.
