Veronica Sierzant, who graduated from Islands, recently wrapped up her second year with the Syracuse volleyball team. News 3 caught up with her over the summer as she gears up for her third year.

Last season, Sierzant participated in 27 out of 32 matches, starting in 17 of them. She led the team with 659 assists and ranked ninth in the ACC for assists per set. She achieved a personal milestone against Notre Dame with 56 assists in a five-set victory.

She also finished with 234 digs, which ranked fourth for the Orange.

In the previous fall, the conference expanded by including West Coast teams, Stanford and California, as well as Southern Methodist University from Texas, which led to Sierzant traveling extensively last season.

“I thought it was honestly really fun because I never thought I’d get to play or go to the West Coast to play volleyball,” Sierzant said. “I thought it was a really unique experience and we had a lot of fun too, because, as you know, I’m a basketball fan, too. So I got to play in the arena where Cameron Brink played.”

The first date Syracuse could play a contest this fall is Aug. 29. Their first practice date will be 17 before the first scheduled competition.
