SLED investigating fire at Edisto Beach home associated with SC circuit court judge; 3 injured

An investigation is in progress at Edisto Beach following a fire on Saturday afternoon at a residence linked to a circuit court judge in Colleton County, South Carolina.

The fire happened in a gated area off Planters Retreat in Jeremy Cay. Video from a witness showed a large home engulfed in flames.

While specific details about the blaze are still being gathered, News 2 is actively verifying information with the Edisto Fire Department.

KC Campbell, public information officer for Colleton County Fire Rescue, said the agency assisted by sending firefighter-paramedics to the scene.

According to reports, three individuals were transported to the Medical University of South Carolina due to the incident. One person was airlifted, and two others were taken by ambulance. The severity of their injuries remains unknown.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed to News 2 that it was actively investigating the fire.

Neighborhood residents informed a News 2 team at the location that a judge resides in the area. Public property records associate the address with Diane Goodstein, identified in South Carolina court records as a circuit court judge.

SC Court officials provided the following statement regarding the incident:

“Chief Justice John W. Kittredge is informed of an event involving Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein. Currently, SLED is present at the scene and will initiate their investigation once the fire is controlled. Local law enforcement agencies have been notified to enhance patrols and security. The Judicial Branch will closely liaise with SLED.”
