A SpaceX rocket undergoing testing in Texas exploded on Wednesday night, creating a spectacular fireball that ascended high into the sky.

The company reported that the Starship encountered a “major anomaly” around 11 p.m. during preparations for its tenth flight test at Starbase, SpaceX’s launch facility situated at the southern edge of Texas.

SpaceX issued a statement on the social media platform X, reassuring that “a safety clear area around the site was maintained throughout the operation and all personnel are safe and accounted for.”

CEO Elon Musk ’s SpaceX said there were no hazards to nearby communities. It asked people not to try to approach the site.

The company said it is working with local officials to respond to the explosion.
