SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A person from Springfield was arrested just over the state line in Indiana on three drug charges Friday evening.

On the evening of May 9, shortly after 6 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper Grundell was on duty patrolling along Interstate 74 near the eighth mile marker in Fountain County. During this time, he stopped a 2011 Buick for exceeding the speed limit.

Upon approaching the driver, identified as 41-year-old Shanna McCrary from Springfield, Grundell noticed the scent of marijuana wafting from inside the car. This prompted him to carry out a search of the Buick based on his olfactory observations.

During his search, Grundell discovered substances that appeared to be fentanyl and marijuana, along with some drug paraphernalia. These suspected drugs were seized as evidence and are set to be sent to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for additional analysis to confirm their identities and determine their exact weights.

As a result of the search, McCrary was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a narcotic drug (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)

During this incident, Grundell was assisted at the scene by the Convington Police Department. This investigation remains ongoing.
