The Springfield Police Department in Illinois is actively investigating a hit-and-run incident that took place on Friday night, which left a bicyclist with “severe” injuries after being struck by a car.
According to Lt. Scott Ligon, police received a call around 10:39 p.m. on June 27 and responded to the 1800 block of S 13th St. regarding a report of a pedestrian being struck. Witnesses on the scene informed officers that a vehicle appeared to be pursuing a cyclist.
The car, heading northbound, entered an alley in the area, accelerated, and collided with the individual on the bike. The driver then left the scene without stopping.
The victim was then transported to a local hospital by ambulance with severe, but not critical injuries.
At this time, the investigation is still active and ongoing so there is no further information available.
