Kay Yow Cancer Fund awards grant to St. Joseph's/Candler

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — St. Joseph’s/Candler is the recipient of a $50,000 grant from the Kay Yow Cancer Fund to enhance breast cancer screening availability for women who are uninsured or under-insured in the Savannah area.

This funding will bolster the efforts of St. Joseph’s/Candler and its Telfair Mammography Fund, a program dedicated to removing financial constraints as obstacles to early cancer detection for women.

Hundreds of women in the area will gain access to mobile mammograms, early detection services and breast health education.

The announcement comes along the annual Back to School Giveback Weekend, hosted by Savannah native and Kay Yow Servant Leader Flau’jae Johnson.

“This grant exemplifies the power of collective action,” said Jenny Palmateer, CEO of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. “When leaders like Flau’jae use their visibility, health systems offer crucial services, and organizations like ours work to eliminate barriers, the impact is significant. Such teamwork is exactly what Coach Yow had in mind—and we’re honored to bring it to fruition.”

On-site mammograms will be offered at the event. For more information, click here.
