JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Towne Acres students participated in an annual STEAM Day on Friday.
STEAM Day, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, included various community partners displaying interesting ways they use STEAM.
Towne Acres Principal Josh Simmons said science is a favorite among Towne Acres students.
“I think the earlier you can expose kids to STEAM-related fields and STEAM-related activities and the opportunities that are going to be provided for them when they get to middle school and high school, I think it just gets them excited and inspires them,” Simmons said.
Simmons said every student needs to find the thing that interests them.
“Whether it’s something academic, whether it’s something sports-related, dance, music, arts. If it’s something that’s STEAM-related, I just think anything we can do to inspire kids and to get them curious [about] where they want to go and learn more on their own, I think that’s a great thing.”
Representatives from the Blair School of Music, East Tennessee State University and more participated in the event.
