Early Monday morning, road crews from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) were active in Unicoi County, preparing for the onset of winter weather. They were particularly focused on Interstate 26, a vital route in the region.

Mark Nagi, a spokesperson for TDOT, took to social media around 6:30 a.m. to update the public on their efforts. According to Nagi, special attention was being given to bridges, overpasses, and ramps—areas particularly vulnerable during snowy conditions.

Accompanying Nagi’s online updates were videos showcasing TDOT vehicles, fully equipped to tackle the snow, as they made their rounds on the interstate. Photos also depicted substantial salt reserves ready for use on the roadways to ensure safety.

The winter weather prompted several schools in the Tri-Cities area, including those in Unicoi County, to adjust their schedules. Announcements about these changes were made as administrators responded to the impending conditions.

Storm Team 11 forecasts indicated that snow showers could continue into Monday afternoon and evening, highlighting the region’s need to remain vigilant against the challenges brought by the arctic chill.

According to Storm Team 11, snow showers are also possible Monday afternoon and evening.
