A 16-year-old tragically died after a 75-foot fall from an Interstate 80 onramp during an unauthorized car gathering in Crockett, California, early Saturday, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

CHP received a report around 3:26 a.m. regarding approximately 100 vehicles obstructing traffic at the intersection near the I-80 westbound onramp and the Pomona Street offramp. During the incident, the young onlooker is believed to have climbed over a concrete safety barrier at a raised portion of the onramp, leading to his fall.

“Our initial findings suggest the 16-year-old male climbed over the onramp’s concrete barrier and accidentally fell to the area below,” said the CHP. “This fall caused fatal injuries, and unfortunately, he was declared dead at the location.”

It remains unclear whether substances such as drugs or alcohol influenced the fall. The circumstances of the teenager’s death are still being examined. Investigators urge any witnesses to contact the CHP’s Contra Costa office with information.

No cars were impounded during the sideshow.
