Texas Tops the Charts: Unveiling the Surge in ICE Arrests During Trump’s Tenure

DALLAS — Immigration enforcement under the Trump administration has intensified, with Texas emerging as the leading state for arrests, according to recent figures.

Data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as reported by the Texas Tribune, reveals that Texas accounts for one in every four arrests nationwide. The state’s arrest figures have almost doubled since President Donald Trump assumed office, surpassing those of all other states.

Texas is home to the second-largest undocumented population in the country, with over 1.6 million of the estimated 13.7 million undocumented people nationwide. Immigration attorneys suggest that local jails in Texas have increasingly become conduits funneling individuals into ICE custody.

Under the Trump administration, 60% of those detained have no prior convictions, marking a significant increase compared to the Biden years. Furthermore, more than half of these individuals were apprehended directly from local jails.
