Blackville Music and Art Festival returns with local talent and flavor

BLACKVILLE, S.C. () — The streets of Blackville are getting ready to come alive again. The annual Blackville Music and Art Festival is back.

“It all began with a dream the Lord gifted to me,” organizer Terrance Washington shared. “He instructed me to create this festival. It’s about uniting the children and demonstrating to them that they can pursue careers in music and the arts.”

This year, they’re focusing on highlighting historical significance. “Blackville is brimming with artistic and creative talent,” he explained. “Many are unaware of its history. Marvin Sease hails from Blackville, as does Nigel Sawyer, who is being inducted into the Hall of Fame. He contributed to the ATLiens album cover and more for Outkast.”

Local celebrities are also in the spotlight at this year’s festival. The Wizard, the producer of “803 Fresh,” is serving as Grand Marshal. His siblings, Mimi LaSalle and Nico Grande, are also set to perform. And indeed, the food has returned. “A favorite aspect for me is the young lady with the cooked pineapples,” Terrance noted. “My daughter just loves them.”

Washington says the festival helps the community. “It brings in money from outside. It impacts the economy. And it shows the kids they can get there from the start.”

The Blackville Music and Art Festival runs May 16 and 17 at 483 Main Street. Events start Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 11.
