The Main Scoop announces closure of Rantoul location

RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — A popular Central Illinois ice cream shop announced that it plans to close up one of its locations after Labor Day.

On Sunday, The Main Scoop Ice Cream said it will close the doors to its Rantoul location for one final time on Sept. 1.

“This was a tough choice to make, but as with many small businesses, we depend on the support of our community, and occasionally, the figures just aren’t favorable,” the business shared in a statement on social media.

The Rantoul location opened for business in June, 2024.

Management assured that all other Main Scoop locations will stay operational. They also intend to keep serving the community through catering services and other offsite events.

At the start of the summer, The Main Scoop unveiled its first venue in Paxton, and shortly after, a second one in Urbana. The business also has branches in Mahomet and Monticello. Their locations include:

  • 403 E. Main St., Mahomet, IL
  • 315 W. Main St., Monticello, IL
  • 133 W. Main St., Urbana, IL
  • 401 N. Broadway Ave., Urbana, IL
  • 201 E. State St., Paxton, IL

The Main Scoop operates from 2-8 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and extends its hours to 2-10 p.m. on Fridays. On Saturdays, ice cream enthusiasts can drop by from noon to 10 p.m., and on Sundays, it is open from noon to 9 p.m.
