Inter Miami have signed Argentina U23 star midfielder Federico Redondo.

On Friday, the club announced the 21-year-old’s signing with a reported $8million fee. Redondo signed with the Herons through the 2027 season with a club option for 2028.

‘We’re pleased to bring an exciting young midfielder like Federico to Inter Miami,’ Chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson in the club’s announcement.

With Redondo qualifying as a U22 signing, the club is allowed to bring him onboard him with a reduced hit of $200,000 on their salary budget. He replaces fellow U22 initiative player Facundo Farias who suffered a season-ending ACL injury in preseason.

Redondo is the son of former Real Madrid, AC Milan and Argentina midfielder Fernando Redondo.

The young star spent his developmental years with Argentinos Juniors, joining their youth program in 2013 before breaking into the senior side in 2022. Redondo has appeared in 49 games and scored two goals for the Buenos Aires-based club.

On the international stage, Redondo made four appearances for Argentina in the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2023. Since turning 21, he appeared in six games for the U23s in the ongoing pre-Olympic qualifying tournament.

He now joins fellow Argentines Lionel Messi and Tata Martino in Fort Lauderdale as Inter Miami chases its first MLS Cup in the club’s short history.
