ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Light Orlando hosted its third annual “1 Million Meals” packing event on Saturday.

Central Florida Fairgrounds was bustling with volunteers, where numerous tables were stocked with packing supplies to prepare 1 million meals for those facing food insecurity in Central Florida.

Troy Wright, program officer for Light Orlando, says they had close to 2,500 people volunteer for this year’s event.

“The incredible part of what’s happening here is seeing so many people dedicate their Saturday to support the community,” said Wright. “Everyone has a light to share, and when we bring those lights together, we create a significant impact that can’t be overlooked.”

Wright said he hopes volunteers will be able to feel the impact.

“This initiative means 1 million individuals in Central Florida will have food, directly impacting our community. We want participants to carry this experience and enthusiasm into the community by seeking out the over 65 charities we’re supporting to find ways to get more involved,” Wright added.
