ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – In the early hours of Wednesday, a toll camera toppled onto State Road 408 near Pine Hills, following a collision involving a dump truck. The incident, confirmed by the Florida Highway Patrol, unfolded just before 7 a.m. in the westbound lanes close to mile marker 6, causing the rightmost lane to be temporarily closed.

Witnesses observed several individuals tending to the fallen equipment, as the accident prompted immediate attention. The dump truck involved was described by troopers as having a light-colored cab with a darker bed, and it was traveling westbound in the outside center lane, east of North Pine Hills Road.

The mishap occurred when the truck’s elevated dump bed failed to clear an overhead bridge while passing under the toll lane. This misjudgment led to a collision with the bridge and toll systems, resulting in the cameras, sensors, and mount crashing down onto the highway.

The driver of the dump truck departed from the scene, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol, leaving authorities to manage the aftermath of the accident and assess the damages caused.

As a result, the bed struck the overhead bridge and the toll cameras, sensors and mount, causing the toll camera to fall onto the roadway, the FHP said.

The driver of the dump truck did not remain at the scene, according to FHP.

Troopers are asking anyone with information to contact FHP or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

The crash remains under investigation.
